The Two Sisters Adventure Company experience is different.
We strive to create welcoming, comfortable, amazing adventures that are friendly for all skill levels. Our trips are intentionally small groups with a guide to guest ratio is typically no more than 6:1 which means our trips are always YOU centered. On all of our Guided Trips and Classes you will always have an experienced, skilled guide available if and when you need them.
FAQ
-
Is Two Sisters the right place for me? Will I feel welcome?
All people are welcome at Two Sisters Adventure Company. We hope that everyone will feel welcome with us. If you have concerns please speak to our staff so we can make your experience more welcoming and comfortable for you. We are a safe space for everyone!
-
Is kayaking right for me?
Do you want to kayak (or canoe or standup paddleboard)? Then kayaking (or canoeing or standup paddleboarding) is right for you! As with everything some of us will need to make adaptions or use different equipment to make kayaking more accessible. Some of our staff have to make adaptations for their own bodies so we know a lot of tricks if you need some advice. We will always work to make sure we do everything within our ability to make paddling accessible to our guests.
-
I have concerns about my body shape or size or disability, what should I do if I want to join you on a trip? What is the maximum weight for your boats?
Every body is different and that makes the world a beautiful place. While we know that we can’t accommodate every single body we will do our best. One of our number one goals is to have equipment that is accessible to many body shapes and sizes. We are constantly working to find boats that can make every body size feel accommodated. If you have questions please call, email, or text us (connect@twosistersadventure.com 919-717-9337) so that we can make a plan to get you comfortable with the equipment we will be using.
-
Will my modesty attire limit my ability to participate in your trips?
We accommodate community members modest attire needs. You are welcome here.
-
What is allowed and not allowed on trips and classes?
We encourage our guests to dress appropriate for the weather and in clothes that can get possibly wet and dirty. Guests should bring water and snacks for your dietary needs, bug spray (optional), hat/sunglasses (optional), windbreaker/pullover fleece (optional based on season/weather), and camera and/or binoculars in dry bag or dry case (optional). Flashlight or headlamp are required for all evening trips. We always ask that you come ready for fun and adventure.
For the health and safety of all of our guests we ask that our guests refrain from smoking and vaping during their trip or class. Paddling a canoe, kayak, or paddleboard under the influence of alcohol is illegal in North Carolina and use of alcohol is not allowed on any of our guided or self guided trips or classes. Use of illegal drugs is also not allowed. Firearms and fireworks are not allowed on our trips. -
Can my dog come on the trip?
We love dogs and understand wanting your furry friends to join you. We also understand that not everyone is comfortable around dogs. With that in mind we do not allow dogs on any of our public guided trips or classes. We do allow dogs on Independent Paddle trips in canoes and on paddleboards (please be aware that your dogs nails must be trimmed and you must provide a lifejacket/pfd for your dog). We do not allow dogs in any of our sit inside style kayaks. We have a limited number of sit-on-top kayaks that dogs can ride on.
-
Do you provide a life jacket for all of your trips?
If your trips will have you on, in, or near the water then yes, we will provide you with a life jacket (PFD- Personal Flotation Device) and we will expect you to wear it while we are on the water.
-
Should I go kayaking if I am afraid of the water or don’t know how to swim?
First, you are not alone, this is one of the number one things we hear. We all come to new experiences with a whole history of other experiences that give us strengths and fears. Good for you for facing that fear and trying something new! Second, we will ALL wear life jackets while we are on the water so nobody’s swimming ability should ever need to come up. If you have specific questions please speak to us either before your trip or as you check in so that we can help you address your concerns.
-
What about the weather? Will we kayak in the rain?
The weather is truly something we have no control over. Sometimes the weather people get forecasts wrong, we also can’t control that. Sometimes we will paddle in a light rain if it doesn’t feel like that will interfere with our experience. In the event of dangerous weather conditions or weather conditions that will dramatically impact everyone’s experience we will cancel a trip. If that happens we will notify guests by phone or email. While we try to make weather cancellations well in advance of the trip meet time, sometimes we will have to make those decisions as late as an hour before the trip.
-
Are there scholarships available for individuals to attend trips or classes?
Yes. If we have scholarship funds available they are available to anyone who needs them. We do not always have scholarship funds available but we usually do have the means to offer some sort of assistance. Email us to get more information connect@twosistersadventure.com
-
What do I need to bring on my trip? Where do I go for my trip?
You will receive an informational email in the week prior to your trip with packing list and Google maps link. Please make sure you look for an email from connect@twosistersadventure.com (and add us to your safe email list). For all trips you should plan on bringing water and snacks for yourself. Wear clothes/shoes you can get potentially wet and dirty in and wear shoes that attach securely to your foot. Guests on all night and evening trips will need a flashlight or headlamp.
-
What should I wear?
Wear clothes that can get wet and dirty. It is possible you will be dry and clean after your trip
but there is always a possibility you will end up wet and dirty. We suggest to dress the way you would if you were going to spend the day on the waterfront/beach. Swimsuits are fine though shorts over may be more comfortable. We also find that a shirt under your lifejacket/pfd is more comfortable.
